MiG-29 flight to the Edge of Space

Did you know that you can fly several fighter jets as a civilian – without being a fighter pilot? Unfortunately the Su-27 Flanker (Su-30) is no longer available for flights. But it was actually possible to book Sukhoi Su-27 for fun as a tourist, until 2006.

The location was Zhukovsky/Ramenskoe airbase, where the MAKS airshow takes place. Other jets available at this time where MiG-25 Edge of Space flights, MiG-23 (aerobatics/supersonic), MiG-29 (aerobatics/supersonic) and the L-39 Albatros (aerobatics).

MiG-29 Edge of Space Flight

Since 2006, the flights to the stratosphere – often called Edge of Space flights, take place in the MiG-29 Fulcrum. The MiG-29 Fulcrum is located in Nizhny Novgorod. Included in the Edge of Space flight is sueprsonic flying, up to Mach 2, and aerobatics. Also, you can control the MiG-29 Fulcrum jet yourself during the flight.

And pretty crazy – you’ll reach altitudes of 20km. From up there, you can see the curvature of the earth. And the sky above is all black, with countless stars that you can see very clear. And the blue fog far below is the atmosphere. So it looks a bit like from a satellite.

But have a look at the Edge of Space video to get an idea:

You can book your MiG-29 flight with the Swiss specialist MiGFlug. There is a lot of information and more incredible photos and videos available:
