Wreckage Of Missing Sukhoi Jet Found After Three Days

The Indian Air Force aircraft was on a routine training mission, when it lost radar and radio contact with the controlling station near Arunachal Pradesh’s Doulasang area, an area adjoining China.

The wreckage of the Sukhoi-30 jet that went missing with two pilots was located on Friday on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border after a three-day search operation.

“Bad weather in the area is hampering the operation. The fate of the two pilots is not known yet,” said defence spokesperson Lt Col Sombit Ghosh.

He told HT that the wreckage has been located near the coordinates, about 60 km north of Tezpur town in north-central Assam, where the last contact with the fighter aircraft was made.

Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force on Friday ordered a court of inquiry into the accident.

“A court of inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the accident,” IAF spokesperson Wing Commander Anupam Banerjee said here Tezpur is one of the three IAF air bases in the country that host the Sukhois.

The Su-30 jet took off from the IAF Tezpur air base, located about 172 km from the India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh around 9.30 am on a routine training mission on May 23.

The aircraft was on a routine training mission as part of a two-aircraft formation.

It lost radar and radio contact with the controlling station around 11.10 am near Arunachal Pradesh’s Doulasang area, an area adjoining China, 60 km north of Tezpur.


IAF Sukhoi-30 aircraft crashes in Barmer

A Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force on Wednesday 15.03.2017 crashed in Shivkar Kudla village in Rajasthan’s Barmer district, leaving three villagers injured.
Both the pilots ejected safely.



“The Sukhoi aircraft crashed near Barmer while on a routine training sortie. Both the pilots ejected safely,” Defence spokesperson Lt Col Manish Ojha said.

District Collector Sudhir Kumar Sharma while confirming the incident said,” A fighter jet crashed near Shivkar village in Sadar police station area and the area has been cordoned off.”
“Air force and police officials have been rushed to the spot,” he added.



According to the Air Force, the jet took off from Jodhpur and after a technical snag crashed in Barmer.

Meanwhile, fire spread to three hamlets in the vicinity charring some huts but no casualty has been reported.

The incident took place after hours after a Chetak helicopter of the Indian Air Force crash landed in Uttar Pradesh, moments after it took off from an airbase on the outskirts of Allahabad this morning. No casualties have been reported, defence officials said.
Last year, in September, a MiG-21 aircraft had crashed in the same area.

Dog vs Su-30MKI On New Agra-Lucknow Expressway

Less than a minute before the first of the Indian Air Force or IAF’s Sukhoi 30 fighters was to do a touch and go on the new Agra-Lucknow Expressway, a dog strayed into the meticulously rehearsed event.
The dog strutted down the middle of the air strip like a show horse and very nearly caused the IAF to abort the manoeuvres of its top gun fighters.
